Abstract:Based on 5 years' experience with wing-tagging ducklings and other birds, certain drawbacks of the currently used technique are pointed out and a new method is described, by which young in pipped eggs can be wing-tagged. The new method permits a greater proportion of the young to be banded, reduces losses at the time of hatching, and did not appear to affect survival of 110 tagged ducklings and coots.
