Abstract:1. Three bird censuses made at the end of the dry season over strips of hilly woodland country covering 110 acres in the Eastern Province of Northern Rhodesia gave 287 birds of 51 species, an average of 2.6 per acre. 2. This agrees well with previous results for Africa. 3. The most abundant species was the cordon-bleu (Uraeginthus angolensis niassensis Rchw.), which was represented by 31 examples; six other species were represented by 10 or more individuals.
