Abstract:Throughout 5 years (1979?83) the nestling period was determined with a maximum error of 1 day in 109 nests of Jackdaws. The young were individually marked. The mean nestling period was 32.4 days. There were significant differences between years but not between colonies. Nestling period was markedly longer in larger broods, probably because chicks in larger broods were individually less well fed.Throughout 5 years (1979?83) the nestling period was determined with a maximum error of 1 day in 109 nests of Jackdaws.
