Abstract:A microimmunodiffusion test was developed for detection of precipitating antigen and antibodies associated with hemorrhagic enteritis of turkeys. The test appeared to be as sensitive for this purpose as a macroimmunodiffusion test reported previously. In comparative studies, both tests detected antigen in turkey spleens at the time the disease became clinically recognizable. Antigen was generally present also even if the major clinical sign (bleeding) was not observed. Antibody was first detected about 1 week after bleeding, became apparent in most or all individuals in infected flocks at about 14 to 21 days, and persisted in most individuals for at least 476 days.
