Abstract:Two influenza viruses were isolated from turkeys in Oregon in 1970 and 1971. A/Turkey/Ore/70 produced approximately 11% deaths in mature turkeys and a 50% decline in egg production. It was antigenically similar to A/Turkey/Wis/66 virus. A/Turkey/Ore/71 resulted in less than 1% deaths in mature turkeys. Egg production was reduced to approximately 30% of its original level. A/Turkey/Ore/71 hemagglutinin was not antigenically similar to the hemagglutinin of any of the avian influenza viruses known to have occurred in North America within the last fifteen years. Hemagglutination by A/Turkey/Ore/71 was inhibited by fowl plague antiserum.
