Abstract: | In two experiments twenty-two newly hatched chicks were fed first one special food and then another in consecutive 24-hr periods. Ten other control chicks received a plain starter mash for the entire 48 hr of training. Two weeks of testing with both of the experimental foods available showed that the conditions of early feeding, in at least one of the experiments, influenced the chicks' preferences in the direction of the first food consumed in training. The results are considered with respect to the importance of early experiences on the formation of food habits. |
