Abstract: | A toluidine blue-butanediol stain was used on various tissues of pheasants, chickens, turkeys, and Japanese quail to determine the distribution of tissue mast cells. The population of mast cells in the tissues was greater in the chicken than in the other three species, and associated mainly with the connective tissues of the digestive system. The toluidine blue-butanediol stain was specific for the mast cells and did not stain blood basophils. |
