Roadmap

The Development of AVIS-IBIS is divided into various developmental phase according to features. Features requested will be discussed, scoped and prioritized. From this, features for future releases and time lines for subsequent releases will be detailed.

  • The portal would be updated with bibliography, gallery, references etc. on a regular basis.
  • Additional features for the public participation would be added in the second phase of the portal development
  • People and institutes interested in Indian Birds would be contacted and a working group would be constituted for the portal management.
  • An expert group would be formed to look at the validity of the information uploaded by various individuals into the portal.
  • Media briefs, workshops and meetings of the interested groups will be taken up to popularize the portal and also for public contribution.
  • We would like to build similar portals for other taxa like fauna, flora, butterflies, reptiles etc. for which we would approach interested individuals and organizations for their support.

We need to strengthen participation. The participation workflow is still clunky. We could enhance participation by making the user interfaces easy for participation and in fact making it very easy for users to upload and contribute data. Also, we need strengthen methods to validate and aggregate the data. Along with this there will have to be a reaching out by road shows and exposures to groups and communities that could help in enriching participation.

We would like to gratefully acknowledge various sources and persons we have consulted with in drafting and crafting this document. We have studied public, open source, participatory communities like the Wikipedia, various biodiversity information sites like the GBIF, EOL, IBP and IBIN and drawn inspiration and guidance from these sites. We are spurred by the success of the Wikipedia and numerous others who have helped in the evolution of the guiding principles for the Portal.
