Birdlife Checklist Difference : Southern Blyth's Leaf Warbler;Phylloscopus claudiae Claudia's Leaf Warbler;Phylloscopus goodsoni Hartert's Leaf Warbler;

Birdlife Checklist Justification : Phylloscopus reguloides (Sibley and Monroe 1990, 1993) has been split into P. reguloides, P. claudiae and P. goodsonifollowing Olsson et al. (2005).
Other Justification : Olsson et al. (2005) noted that 'The avian taxa Cryptigata andAcanthopneuste have been treated either as subgenera withinPhylloscopus (leaf-warblers), or as a distinct genus and an informal group, respectively. The circumscriptions of these taxa have varied between authors. We estimated the phylogeny, based on the mitochondrial cytochrome b and 12S genes and the nuclear myoglobin intron II, of all except two of the species placed in the Cryptigata and Acanthopneuste groups, as well as two recently described species and representatives of all subgenera and major clades in Phylloscopus and Seicercusrecognized by previous studies. Neither Cryptigata norAcanthopneuste is found to be monophyletic. The polytypic species P. reguloides and P. davisoni show deep divergences between some of their respective subspecies, and the latter species is non-monophyletic. We propose that the former be split into three species and the latter into two species. Seicercus xanthoschistos is nested in a clade that includes onlyPhylloscopus, and we recommend that it be placed inPhylloscopus. The rate of morphological divergence varies considerably among the taxa in this study. Our results emphasize the importance of dense taxon sampling in intrageneric phylogenetic studies.'

I procured it in the Neilgherries, in the Wynaad, and also at Nellore; and it is common near Calcutta, and in Nepal and Sikhim.

Blyth's Willow-Warbler.

Closely allied to Phylloscopus magnirostris, being absolutely identical in colour and in its seasonal changes, and would scarcely be entitled to specific rank were it not that it appears to have a more eastern geographical range. It is somewhat smaller, with a more rounded wing; the 4th and 5th primaries are longest and the 2nd is equal to the 10th; 1st primary 07 to 0'8 inch.

Length.- 5 inches; wing 2.4 to 2.6; tail 2.o to 2.1; tarsus 0.75 ; culmen o.45 to 0.62.

This is one of the most abundant species of the genus. It is found in the Eastern Himalayas, where it breeds, and as far west as Nepaul. It extends in winter to Assam and Lower Bengal. Jerdon records it from the Neilgherries, the Wynaad, Bengal and Sikkim. Round Pegu Oate's says it is very common. Dr. Armstrong got it at Elephant Point, Mr. Davison in the northern half of the Tenasserim Division, and Dr. Anderson procured it near Bhamo. Seebohm says it straggles in the winter to the Philippine Islands.

Like the last this species is entirely arboreal in its habits, affecting the high tree tops. A pale mesial line on the crown.

Blyth's Crowned Willow-Warbler.

An ill-defined coronal streak from the forehead to the nape, and a well-" defined superciliary streak on each side pale yellowish. Upper parts olive green, slightly yellower on the rump and upper tail coverts; the interspaces on the Crown dark olive ; wings and wing Coverts brown, edged externally with bright olive green; the median and greater coverts with yellow lips forming two conspicuous wing bars; quills brown, very narrowly tipped paler, and the outer webs margined with bright olive green; lords and feathers behind the eye brown ; ear coverts mixed brown and yellowish; lower plumage greyish white, whiter on die belly, and more or less suffused with yellow; under wing coverts, axillaries and thighs bright yellow. In summer, as in all the Phylloscopi, the plumage is duller. Upper mandible dark brown ; lower one with the gape and the edges of the upper mandible yellow ; iris dark hazel; legs yellowish brown.

Length.-4.6 inches; wing 2.25 to 2.4 inches; tail 1.85 to 2.o;tarsus o.7 ; bill from gape 0.6 ; 1st primary 0.6 inches in length, the 2nd about equal to the 10th; 3rd, 4th and 5th about equal and longest.

Hab.- The Himalayas from Nepaul eastwards, in the alpine districts of which it is supposed to breed. It winters in both the Indian and Burmah Peninsulas.

It has been recorded from the N. W. Provinces of India, also from Oudh, Bengal, British Burmah and Nepaul. Oates says it is common throughout Southern Pegu, and, quoting Davison, that it has been met with in Tenasserim, Dr. Armstrong procured it at Amherst. It is said to be common also from Cashmere eastwards, and to have occurred in China. Jerdon, under P. trochiloides, says he got it at Calcutta, and that Mr. Blyth has seen it from Dehradoon, and again, under P. viridipennis, that he obtained it at Darjeeling. It is found on trees, searching the leaves for insects.
