Abstract:A significant linear relationship between the number of calling male scaled quail (Callipepla squamata) and hunting success (r = 0.97, P ≤ 0.01) shows a potential to predict fall population levels from call-count surveys. The influence of precipitation on breeding and hunting success is discussed along with possible reasons for fluctuations in scaled quail population levels.
