Abstract:Summary. A brief outline of the male Wren's territorial activities is followed by a discussion of some points of special interest. Reference is made to the Wren's polygamous tendencies and the operation of sexual selection in this species. The territory of this highly territorial bird serves a variety of functions, including dispersal, pair-formation, safeguarding reproductive activities and providing a foraging area. There is a correlation between food supply, activities connected with the territory and the character of the pair-bond. Territorialism is considered to be basically concerned with reproduction and is regarded as an integrated set of activities in which vigour is the fundamental concept.
