Abstract:Jackdaws were collected in twos and one of each was injected with 10% formalin to stop digestive action. We recorded total weight of food, number of animal prey, total volume of the animal, vegetable and mineral fractions. The values of these were similar in injected and non-injected birds, none o the differences being significant. We conclude that post mortem digestion does not produce a loss of information with respect to feeding studies on birds. This conclusion was supported by an experiment.Jackdaws were collected in twos and one of each was injected with 10% formalin to stop digestive action.
