Genus SQUATAROLA

This genus, containing only the Grey Plover, precisely agrees with Charadrius in general Coloration and structure, and only differs in having a minute hind toe. It undergoes precisely similar changes of plumage in summer and winter. The distinction, which is accepted by almost all ornithologists, shows in fact how artificial many of the bird genera are.
