Genus PASTOR

Pastor Temm., Man. d'Orn., i, p. 83 (1815). Type, Pastor roseus.

In the genus Pastor the bill is slender, curved and rather shorter than the head; she nasal membrane is covered with feathers; the wing is long and pointed; the tail short and square; the sexes differ little in plumage and both have a full long crest. In Winter the black feathers of the head and crest have buff tips which are lost by abrasion in the Spring,

There is only one species which is found over the geater part of Eastern Europe, Western and Central Asia.
