Motacilla lugubris Temm., Man. d'Orn., i, p. 253 (1820). Type-locality: France.

In M. l. lugubris the ear-coverts are white and the throat black, a combination found in none of the Indian races.

b. Only a narrow line across forehead and supercilium whiter…………M. l. maderaspatensis, [p. 263.
