GENUS Micropternus, Blyth.

Bill broad at base ; culmen arched, the sides slightly rounded ; lateral ridge wanting ; wing rather short; tail short and broad; feet small; versatile and anterior toes above equal; inner hind- toe and claw minute'; the plumage of a peculiar chesnut-bay coloring.
