Genus MARGAROPERDIX.

Tail of twelve feathers about half the length of the wing. First primary between sixth and seventh. No spurs. Sexes differ.

M. madagascariensis. The Madagascar P. 6 10". Above red-brown, with white shaft stripes. Head and throat black, with white eye-stripe. Mid-chest chestnut. Sides grey. Breast and belly black, with oval, white spots. Tail black, barred reddish white.— Female: Sides and flanks barred black. (O.G. i. 152.)
