Hirundo smithii Leach, App. to Tuckey's Voy. Congo, p. 407 (1818). Type-locality: Congo River.

The African "Wire-tailed Swallow is a slightly smaller bird on the average than our Indian form, with rather shorter " wires" to the tail. The differences are very slight and perhaps hardly of sub specific value.
