Male 12" to 13". Legs dark brown. Bill black. Irides blue. Narrow black ring round the eye. Second feather from outside of tail longest. Shafts brownish. W. Indies, across Atlantic to Indian Ocean, Malayasia to Australia, Polynesia to the Sandwich Islands. (B. 326. S.F. vii. 447.)

Also G. microrhyncha. 10 1/2". Legs brown. Bill black. Third feather from outside of tail longest. Shafts white. Marquesas Islands.
