Type-locality; Philippines.

The typical form is smaller than those found in India and Burma, with a rather shorter, stouter bill.

Key to Subspecies.

A. Paler and rather smaller…………H. s. gularis, p. 7.
B. Darker and rather larger…………H. s. obscuriora, p. 9.
