Falco columbarius*.

Falco columbarius Linn., Syst. Nat., 10th ed. p. 90 (1758).

Type-locality: America.

The typical form, as also F. c regulus, the British form, is much darker than either of the two forms found within our limits.

Key to Subspecies.

A.Darker, both above and below in both sexes............... F. c. insignis, p. 49.
B.Paler............... F. c. christiani-ludovici, p. 50.

* Messrs. Meyer and Wiglesworth. in naming our Indian race indicus, overlooked the fact that Hodgson bad already published (in loc, tit.) a good description of this form, giving it the name quoted.
