THE BLACK STORK.

Surmai, India.

Male 40" to 44"; 9 lbs. Female 39 1/2"; 7 1/2 lbs. Legs dark red. Bill 8", blood-red. Orbital skin red. Breast and abdomen white; rest blackish, with purple reflections. Europe and Asia, winters in Africa and India. Not observed in S. India, Ceylon, or Burma. (J. 918. B. 1547.)
