Ciconia ciconia.

Ciconia ciconia.

This species has been divided into three races, one of which, C. c. boyciana, is easily distinguishable by its black beak. On the other hand, C. c. asiatica is separated only on account of its supposedly larger size and larger bill; the specimens I have been able to measure do not support this separation and I therefore consider C. c. asiatica to be merely a synonym of G. c. ciconia.

Key to Subspecies.

A. Bill red……………..c. c. ciconia, p. 321.
B. Bill black……………..C. c. boyciana, p. 322..
