Genus BRANTA.

Branta Scopoli, Annus I, Nat. Hist, p. 67 (1769).

Type, Anas bernicla Linn.

This genus differs from Anser in having no serrations visible on the edge of the upper mandible. The genus extends throughout the Palaearctic and Nearctic regions.
