THE CRESTED or FALCATED TEAL.

Male 19 3/4"; 1 3/8 lbs. Legs drab. Bill black. Frontal spot white. Head bronze, with green eye-patch. Throat white, with greenish band across it. Back mottled grey and white. Tail brown. Falcate tertiaries black, glossed green, shafts white. Breast and abdomen white, with dark brown bands.— Female: Head and neck brown, streaked white. Speculum black, glossed green, E. Asia and Japan. Visits N. India and Burma in winter. Eggs (2.2 x 1.56) creamy white. (B. 1594. H. & M. iii. 231.)
