Falco nisus Linn., Syst. Nat., 16th ed. i, p. 9:2 (1758).

Type-locality: Sweden.

The English, or European, form of Sparrow-Hawk is darker than A. n. nisosimilis and not so dark as A. n. melanoschistus.

Key to Subspecies.
A.Much paler ............... A. n. nisosimilis, p. 156.
B.Much darker............... A. n. melanoschistas, p. 158.
